๐During the early days of independent India, Indian Board for Wild Life (IBWL) was constituted in 1952 under the chairmanship of Shri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar.
๐During the 15th meeting of IBWL in 1982, a decision was taken to prepare a National Wild Life Action Plan.
๐In this direction, the first National Wildlife Action Plan (NWAP -1) was drafted and adopted in 1983 and implemented till 2001.
New concerns and challenges made the IBWL to come up with a new National Wild Life Action Plan (NWAP - 2).
This plan was implemented for the period from 2002 to 2016.
๐ฅFor the first time, NWAP (2017-31) recognizes the concerns relating to climate change's impacts on wildlife.
♦️THE FIVE COMPONENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS: ๐
1. Strengthening and promoting the integrated management of wildlife & their habitats.
2. Adaptation to Climate Change & promoting integrated sustainable management of aquatic biodiversity in India.
3. Promoting eco-tourism, nature education & participatory management.
4. Strengthening wildlife research and monitoring of the development of human resources in wildlife conservation and;
5. Enabling policies & resources for the conservation of wildlife in India.
