Investment banking is a special segment of banking operation that helps individuals or organisations raise capital and provide financial consultancy services to them.

They act as intermediaries between security issuers and investors and help new firms to go public. They either buy all the available shares at a price estimated by their experts and resell them to public or sell shares on behalf of the issuer and take commission on each share.

Description: Investment banking is among the most complex financial mechanisms in the world. They serve many different purposes and business entities. They provide various types of financial services, such as proprietary trading or trading securities for their own accounts, mergers and acquisitions advisory which involves helping organisations in M&As,; leveraged finance that involves lending money to firms to purchase assets and settle acquisitions, restructuring that involves improving structures of companies to make a business more efficient and help it make maximum profit, and new issues or IPOs, where these banks help new firms go public.

Let’s understand how an investment bank earns money by providing acquisition advisories.

Think of company ABC buying another company XYZ. ABC is not sure how much company XYZ is really worth and what will be the long-term benefits in terms of revenues, costs, etc. In this scenario, the investment bank will go through the process of due diligence to determine the value of the company, settle the deal by helping ABC prepare necessary documents and advising it on the appropriate timing of the deal.

Here the investment bank works on the buy side and some other investment banks may be working on the sell side to help XYZ. The bigger the deal size, the more commission the bank will earn.

Bank of America, Barclays Capital, Citigroup Investment Banking, Deutsche Bank, and JP Morgan are some of the largest investment banks in India.
EMI or equated monthly installment, as the name suggests, is one part of the equally divided monthly outgoes to clear off an outstanding loan within a stipulated time frame.

Description: The EMI is dependent on multiple factors, such as:

1) Principal borrowed

2) Rate of interest

3) Tenure of the loan

4) Monthly/annual resting period

For a fixed interest rate loan, the EMI remains fixed for the entire tenure of the loan, provided there is no default or part-payment in between. The EMI is used to pay off both the principal and interest components of an outstanding loan. The first EMI has the highest interest component and the lowest principal component. With every subsequent EMI, the interest component keeps on reducing while the principal component keeps rising. Thus, the last EMI has the highest principal component and the lower interest component.

In case the borrower makes a pre-payment through the tenure of a running loan, either the subsequent EMIs get reduced or the original tenure of the loan gets reduced or a mix of both. The reverse happens when the borrower skips an EMI through the tenure of the loan (EMI holiday or cheque dishonor/bounce or insufficient balance in case of auto deduction of EMI or a default); in that case either the subsequent EMIs rise or the tenure of the loan increases or a mix of both, apart from inviting a financial penalty, if any.

Similarly, in case the rate of interest reduces through the tenure of the loan (as in the case of floating rate loans) the subsequent EMIs get reduced or the tenure of the loan falls or a mix of both. The reverse happens when the rate of interest rises.

Suppose a person borrows Rs 1 lakh for one year at the fixed rate of 9.5 per cent per annum with a monthly rest. In this case, the EMI for the borrower for 12 months (1 year X 12 months = 12 months) works out to approximately Rs 8,768.
When a bank remits its foreign currency fund to a foreign bank for credit to an account of a third bank it is called a Loro account. It means Their money.

Loro accounts are generally held by a 3rd party bank, other than the account maintaining bank or with whom account is maintained.
For example, BOI wants to transact with HSBC, but doesn’t have any account, while SBI maintains an account with HSBC in U.K. Then BOI could use SBI account. (again may be).
Moral suasion refers to an appeal to morality to change or influence behaviour. Moral suasion under economics is defined as the attempt to coerce private economic activity through government exhortation in ways not already defined or dictated by existing statute law.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) uses moral suasion as a qualitative instrument of monetary policy, unlike statutory liquidity ratio or cash reserve ratio.

Moral Suasion is a request by the RBI to the commercial banks to take specific measures as per the economy’s trends. For instance, RBI may direct banks not to give out certain loans. It includes psychological means and informal means of selective credit control.

The ‘moral’ element comes from the pressure for ‘moral responsibility’ to function in a way that aligns with furthering the good of the economy. Moral suasion in a narrow sense may sometimes be known as jawboning.

🥏There are two types of moral suasion:

➖“Pure” moral suasion refers to an appeal for altruistic behavior and is not used often in economic policy.
➖“Impure” moral suasion is often referred to as “moral suasion” in economics. It is supported by explicit or implicit threats by authorities to provide incentives to adhere to the authorities’ commands.

💎Features of Moral Suasion
Moral suasion has gained significance in developed countries as an efficient monetary policy instrument. To better understand this concept, let us figure out its critical elements:

➖Qualitative Tool: It is a qualitative tool used for price stability and growth of an economy through credit control.
➖Act of Persuasion: It is all about changing the mind and influencing the stakeholders such that they cooperate to the policy instruments by themselves, without any use of force or pressure.
➖Directed by Central Bank: For economic welfare and interest, the central bank directs and persuades the commercial banks to adhere to the monetary and credit policy instruments.
➖Monetary Policy Instrument: The principal intention of moral suasion is to gain cooperation from the stakeholders to adhere to specific policies and guidelines.
➖Seeks Cooperation: It is not related to enforcing the stakeholders to follow the decisions. Instead, it is an act of convincing them to cooperate and adhere to the policy instruments willingly.
A “Gilt Account” means an account opened and maintained for holding Government securities, by an entity or a person including ‘a person resident outside India’ with a “Custodian” permitted by the Reserve Bank of India to open and maintain Constituent Subsidiary General Ledger Account with the Public Debt Office of the Reserve Bank of India. However, in case of a ‘Person resident outside India, the activities in the operations/maintenance of Gilt Account shall be governed by the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 2000 and the regulations
framed thereunder.

A “Constituent” or a ‘Gilt Account Holder (GAH) means an entity or a person including ‘a person resident outside India’ maintaining a “Gilt Account” with a “Custodian”.

The GAHs permitted by RBI include NBFCs, Provident Funds, Pension Funds, Mutual Funds, Insurance Companies, Cooperative Banks, Regional Rural Banks, Trusts, Corporates, and Individuals etc. who are non-NDS members. A GAH is entitled to open only one Gilt Account having a unique account number with any of the Custodians. A declaration to that effect must be submitted by GAH to the Custodian and a copy thereof may be submitted to the RBI (Public Debt office, Mumbai). A GAH may also maintain a demat account with the Depositories through Depository Participant (DP) for facilitating retail trading in Government Securities through Stock Exchanges.

The Gilt Account Holder (GAH) is permitted to maintain a fund account with its Custodians or designate a fund account with a bank other than the Custodian specifically for settlement of Government Securities transactions, by making available all the details of the designated fund account to the Custodian. The Gilt Accounts are opened/maintained by Custodian shall satisfy the eligibility conditions for holding Government securities as specified in the General Notifications F.No. 4(9)-W&M/ 2000 dated 6th May 2002 and announcements by the RBI relating to investments by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs).
Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi launched the SVAMITVA Scheme (Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) on National Panchayat Day 24th April 2020 with the aim of survey of inhabited areas of villages using technology to provide an integrated solution for property validation in rural India.

The scheme's intent is to provide the 'record of rights' to village household owners so that they can use their houses as financial assets to take loans and other financial benefits from Banks.

🔷Objective of SVAMITVA Scheme
➖ To maintain accurate land records for rural development planning.
➖ To reduce property disputes, legal cases, and false land acquisition of rural India.
➖ To bring financial stability to the people of rural India by enabling them to use their property as a financial asset for taking loans and other financial benefits.
➖ Creation of survey infrastructure and GIS maps that can be leveraged by any department for their use.
➖ To prepare better-quality Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) by using GIS maps.
➖ The program is currently being implemented in six states - Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The aim of the government is to cover all 6.62 lakh villages in the country by the end of financial year 2023-24.

🔷Details of SVAMITVA Scheme
➖ The scheme is funded by the Central Government of India and Rs 79.65 crores have been allotted for the pilot phase of the project in about 1 lakh villages across 8 states.
➖ Under this scheme SVAMITVA Property cards will be issued to the landowners by the Government authorities, these property cards have all the records of the land owned by the landowners.
➖ The residential area of the village is demarcated and each rural property is marked with limestone (chunna). ➖ Then, drones are used for large scale mapping of rural abadi areas. Based on these images, a GIS database is created, and village maps — Gram Manchitra — are drawn.
➖ Drone Surveying technology and Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) will be used for demarcation of rural residential areas.
➖ The mapping of areas using drones will done gradually in different phases for a period of 4 years, starting from 2020, and ending in 2024.

🔷Benefits of SVAMITVA Scheme
➖ A clarity on property rights/ownership will be attained through this project.
➖ No illegal attempt of land acquisition of someone else’s property in the village will be practiced once documents are gathered and strict rules are implemented.
➖ Through regular inspections, and survey via drones will give the Government and the authorities a clearer idea of the land/property distribution.
➖ The SVAMITVA Property card can also be used as a temporary identity for the land-owners and land records.
➖ Official documents for the property will be provided to the land owners so that they can use it for further financial purposes.

🔷Scheme Implementation Process
➖ Drone Survey.
➖ Chunna Marking.
➖ Mapping
➖ Data processing.
➖ Final Map generation.
➖ Property card preparation.
➖ Property card distribution.

The Government is constantly working for the development of the rural Indian population and the SVAMITVA Scheme is also an initiative for the same which will definitely bring some change in Rural India.
👉🏻What is a Bad Bank?
Banks drive the nation’s economy, however many times the borrowers find it difficult to service their loans. It requires the lenders to set aside the capital to cover the losses. This is when the bad bank comes into the picture to help them free up to start lending. A bad bank is an Asset Reconstruction Company in other words.

👉🏻Key Points: Bad Bank
➖The bad bank does not involve itself in lending and taking deposits, but it helps to make commercial banks clear their balance sheets and resolve bad loans.
➖The process of taking over bad loans is generally below the book value of the loan
➖Bad bank tries to recover as much as possible from those bad loans
➖Mellon Bank based in the USA was the first one in this field. It is referred to as the first bad bank in 1988.
➖A bad bank aids a bank to segregate its good assets from the bad ones which make it easier to raise capital through equity or debt.

👉🏻What is the Significance?
The toxic assets separation helps in generating some confidence among potential investors so that they can then clearly examine the financial health of the lender. Sour loans when transferred to a bad bank can help lenders prioritize their financing business and the specialized institution deals with maximizing loan recovery.

👉🏻The requirement of bad bank :
➖The lockdown that was imposed due to pandemic to curb covid spread has crimped the earnings of the businesses and individuals. It impaired their ability to repay loans which caused a hike in non-performing assets of banks. The corporate sector has come under the debt of INR 15.52 lakh crore.
➖Despite the regulatory forbearance as a loan moratorium, borrowers are finding it difficult to service their loans. This then requires lenders to set aside their capital to cover such losses. A bad bank can provide them with the freedom to restart lending.
➖The RBI in its recent FSR informed that the gross NPAs in the banking sector was expected to shoot up to 13.5% of advances by September 2021, from 7.5% in the previous year.

👉🏻Challenges of Bad Bank:
➖The major issue would be of finding buyers in the pandemic hit economy. The government is itself facing fiscal deficits at present
➖Without governance reforms, the Public sector banks would continue doing business in the same way as in the past. It may also end up piling-up bad debts again.
➖Union Government has already infused almost 2.6 lakh crore in banks through recapitalisation so now bad banks would do no better as per many economists.
➖Bad banks can also ease off the banks of their moral responsibility and let them lend without any commitment to clear their NPAs.

The cash management bill (CMB) is the most flexible instrument for a Central Bank because it can be issued when needed, allowing the Central Bank to have lower cash balances and issue fewer long-term notes. CMBs tend to pay higher yields than bills with fixed maturities, but their shorter maturities lead to lower overall interest expense.

The Government of India, in consultation with the RBI, had decided to issue a new short-term instrument, known as Cash Management Bills, to meet the temporary cash flow mismatches of the Government. CMBs in India are non-standard, discounted instruments issued for maturities less than 91 days. CMBs have the generic character of Treasury Bills.

Features of cash management bill (CMB)

1. CMBs are in nature similar to Treasury Bills.
2. The tenure of CMBs is less than 91 Days, but the amount and date of issue depend upon the requirements.
3. It is issued at a discount on Face Value.
4. The announcement is made One day prior to the auction
5. The settlement of the auction is on T+1 Basis.
6. It is Tradable
7. Investment in them is eligible in Government securities by banks for SLR purpose
The PCR will be an extensive database of credit information for India that is accessible to all stakeholders. The idea is to capture all relevant information in one large database on the borrower and, in particular, the borrower’s entire set of borrowing contracts and outcomes.

The proposed PCR will also include data from entities like market regulator Sebi, the corporate affairs ministry, Goods and Service Tax Network (GSTN) and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) to enable banks and financial institutions to get a 360-degree profile of the existing as well as prospective borrowers on a real-time basis.

Management of PCR

Generally, a PCR is managed by a public authority like the central bank or the banking supervisor, and reporting of loan details to the PCR by lenders and/or borrowers is mandated by law. The contractual terms and outcomes covered and the threshold above which the contracts are to be reported vary in different jurisdictions, but the idea is to capture all relevant information in one large database on the borrower, in particular, the borrower’s entire set of borrowing contracts and outcomes.

Need for a PCR

A central repository, which, for instance, captures and certifies the details of collaterals, can enable the writing of contracts that prevent over-pledging of collateral by a borrower. In absence of the repository, the lender may not trust its first right on the collateral and either charge a high cost on the loan or ask for more collateral than necessary to prevent being diluted by other lenders. This leads to, what in economics is termed as, pecuniary externality – in this case, a spillover of one loan contract onto outcomes and terms of other loan contracts.

Furthermore, absent a public credit registry, the ‘good’ borrowers are disadvantaged in not being able to distinguish themselves from the rest in opaque credit markets; they could potentially be subjected to a rent being extracted from their existing lenders who enjoy an information monopoly over them. The lenders may also end up picking up fresh clients who have a history of delinquency that is unknown to all lenders and this way face greater overall credit risk.

Benefits of having a PCR

➖A PCR can potentially help banks in credit assessment and pricing of credit as well as in making risk-based, dynamic and counter-cyclical provisioning.
➖The PCR can also help the RBI in understanding if transmission of monetary policy is working, and if not, where are the bottlenecks.
➖Further, it can help supervisors, regulators and banks in early intervention and effective restructuring of stressed bank credits.
➖A PCR will also help banks and regulators as credit information is a ‘public good’ and its utility is to the credit market at large and to society in general.
Hotspot volcanism is a type of volcanism that occurs at the interior of the lithospheric plates rather than plate margins.

Well known hotspots include-
1) Hawaiian Hotspot
2) Yellowstone Hotspot
3) Reunion Hotspot

Hotspot volcanism occurs due to abnormally hot centres in the mantle known as "mantle plumes".

Most of the mantle plumes lie far from tectonic plate boundaries (e.g. Hawaiian Hotspot), but there are some exceptions which are located near plate boundaries (e.g. Iceland Hotspot, Afar Hotspot).

There are 4 types of genetic diseases

 1. Single Gene - Disorders caused by abnormality or mutation in the sequence of one gene.

2. Multifactorial - Caused by a combination of environmental factors as well as mutations in multiple genes.

3. Chromosomal - Abnormalities in chromosome structure such has missing or extra copies

4. Mitochondrial - Caused by a mutation in non-chromosomal DNA of mitochondria
✅"Dark net" is commonly confused with "deep web." The deep web refers to unindexed sites which are unsearchable; in most cases, this is because those sites are protected by passwords.

✅Part of the WWW (World Wide Web) which is not indexed by a search engine like Google is Deep Web and it about 500-600 times larger than the surface web.

✅Surface Web -Also called the Visible Web, Indexed Web, Indexable Web or Lightnet -is that portion of the World Wide Web that is readily available to the general public and searchable with standard web search engines. It is the opposite of the deep web. It only constitutes 4-6% of the whole web.
Agriculture: Nanotechnology can be used in agriculture and food production in the form of Nano sensors for monitoring crop growth and pest control by early identification of plant diseases. These Nano sensors can help enhance production and improve food safety. With inputs related to water use, fertiliser and pesticides delivered in nanoscale productivity and yield can be increased.

Medical applications: Development of newer drug delivery systems based on nanotechnology methods is being tried for conditions like cancer, diabetes, fungal infections, and viral infections and in gene therapy. Nanotechnology has also found its use in diagnostic medicine as contrast agents, fluorescent dyes and magnetic nanoparticles.

Electronics: The semiconductor industry has been able to improve the performance of electronic systems for more than four decades by downscaling silicon-based devices. Carbon nanomaterials such as one dimensional (1D) carbon nanotubes and two dimensional (2D) graphene have emerged as promising options due to their superior electrical properties which allow for fabrication of faster and more power-efficient electronics.

Textiles and Clothing: Nanotechnology has shown a huge potential in the textile and clothing industry which is normally very traditional. Coating is a common technique used to apply Nano-particles onto textiles. The success of nanotechnology in textile applications lies in areas of durability, flexibility, wash ability and softness. The use of nanotechnology allows textiles to become multifunctional and produce fabrics with special functions, including antibacterial, UV-protection, easy clean, water & stain repellent and anti-odour.

Energy equipment: Nanoscales and nanoporous membranes are being used to facilitate production of biomass fuel. Energy transmission could potentially be made much more efficient by using engineered nanomaterials. Throughout the renewable-energy sector, nanotechnology has the potential to increase process efficiencies and process yields, decrease costs and enable energy processes that would not be attainable any other way.

-GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) and transgenic plants are often used interchangeably, but they actually refer to slightly different things.

🔺GMO
-GMOs refer to any organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. This can include plants, animals, and microorganisms.

🔺Transgenic Plants
-Transgenic plants, on the other hand, specifically refer to plants that have had genes from another species introduced into their DNA using genetic engineering techniques.

Crux
-In essence, all transgenic plants are GMOs, but not all GMOs are transgenic plants.

The Reserve Bank encouraged the setting up of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to act as an umbrella organisation for operating various Retail Payment Systems (RPS) in India. NPCI became functional in early 2009. NPCI has taken over National Financial Switch (NFS) from Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT). NPCI is expected to bring greater efficiency by way of uniformity and standardization in retail payments and expanding and extending the reach of both existing and innovative payment products for greater customer convenience.

📱Mobile Banking System
Mobile phones as a medium for providing banking services have been attaining increased importance. Reserve Bank brought out a set of operating guidelines on mobile banking for banks in October 2008, according to which only banks which are licensed and supervised in India and have a physical presence in India are permitted to offer mobile banking after obtaining necessary permission from Reserve Bank. The guidelines focus on systems for security and inter-bank transfer arrangements through Reserve Bank’s authorized systems. On the technology front the objective is to enable the development of inter-operable standards so as to facilitate funds transfer from one account to any other account in the same or any other bank on a real time basis irrespective of the mobile network a customer has subscribed to.
The Indus System is one of the largest river basins of the world. Its basin covers a massive area of more than a million square kms.

- The Indus river basin stretches from the Himalayan mountains in the north to the dry alluvial plains of Sindh province in Pakistan in the south.

- India is named after the River Indus. One of the greatest ancient civilizations flourished along Indus named the Indus Valley Civilization. It is also called Sindhu in ancient time, the meaning of Sindhu is a “large body of water, sea, or ocean”.

- River Dolphin is one of the rarest mammals on earth only found in the Indus River. It was declared as the State aquatic animal in February 2019 by Punjab government.

𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒔 𝑾𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑻𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒚 :
It was signed in Karachi on 19 September 1960 by Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistani President Ayub Khan. The World Bank, as the third party, played an important role in crafting the IWT.

The Treaty gives control over the waters of the three "eastern rivers" — the Beas, Ravi and Sutlej to India, while control over the waters of the three "western rivers" — the Indus, Chenab and Jhelum to Pakistan. India has about 20% of the total water carried by the Indus system while Pakistan has 80%.

The treaty allows India to use the western river waters for limited irrigation use and unlimited non-consumptive use for such applications as power generation, navigation, floating of property, fish culture, etc.

The Treaty is considered to be one of the most successful watersharing arrangements in the world.

There is a water-distribution treaty between India and Pakistan regarding sharing the water of River Indus and its five major Indian tributaries, Chenab, Jhelum, Beas, Ravi and Sutlej.

According to the agreement, the control over the water of the three western rivers, Indus, Jhelum and Chenab, was given to Pakistan while that of the three eastern rivers, Ravi, Beas and Sutlej, was given to India.

The Indus river originates from the Bokhar Chu (glacier) in the Tibetan region in northern slopes of Mt. Kailash. In Tibet, it is known as ‘Singi Khamban; or Lion’s mouth. The Indus basin extends over China (Tibet), India, Afghanistan and Pakistan .

It enters into Pakistan near Chillar in the Dardistan region.

Its left-bank tributary in Ladakh is the Zanskar River and Panjnad River which itself has five major tributaries, namely the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej rivers. Its principal right-bank tributaries are the Shyok, Gilgit, Kabul, Kurram, and Gomal rivers.

Some important dams on Indus river are Baglihar Dam, Bhakra Dam india, Chamera Dam, Nathpa Jhakri Dam, Ranjit Sagar Dam etc.

𝑶𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒔 :
The Indus is second among a group of ten rivers responsible for about 90% of all the plastic that reaches the oceans, after the Yangtze River.

Vegetation and wildlife of the Indus delta are threatened by the reduced inflow of fresh water, along with extensive deforestation, industrial pollution and global warming.

Large scale diversion of water for irrigation is increasing soil salinization, reducing crop yields and in some cases rendering farmland useless for cultivation.
It is located mainly in Madhya Pradesh. Narmada is the largest west flowing river of the peninsular region flowing through a rift valley between the Vindhya Range on the north and the Satpura Range on the south.

It rises from Maikala range near Amarkantak in Madhya Pradesh.
It drains a large area in Madhya Pradesh besides some areas in the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat.
The river near Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) forms the DhuanDhar Falls.
There are several islands in the estuary Aliabet is the largest. The tributaries of Narmada River are Kolar River, Shakkar River, Dudhi River, Tawa River, and Hiran River.
Major Hydro Power Project in this river are Maheshwar Dam, Sardar Sarovar Dam, and Indira Sagar.

Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA):
It is an Indian social movement spearheaded by native tribes (adivasis), farmers, environmentalists and human rights activists against a number of large dam projects across the Narmada River.

Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat is one of the biggest dams on the river and was one of the first focal points of the movement.
Pandas are shy, solitary & arboreal animals. The panda became a symbol of the conservation movement around the world — a call to action to preserve endangered species, and our natural wildlife environments for our wild animals.

In 1961, the World Wide Fund for Nature was formed, and created their logo around the Panda, because it is “an animal that is beautiful, endangered, and loved by many people in the world,”.

There are two species of Panda - Giant Panda & Red Panda.

In India Red Panda is found. Where it is given highest conservation status -

IUCN Red List: Endangered
CITES: Appendix 1
Wildlife Protection Act 1972: Schedule I

There are two subspecies of Giant panda: The black and white panda, & the ‘Qinling panda’ – A much smaller, brown subspecies of panda, discovered in 1985 in the mountain ranges of the southern Shaanxi Province in China.
It originates from the Yamunotri Glacier on the southwestern slopes or Banderpoonch peak in the Mussoorie range of the lower Himalayas.

It is the second-largest tributary river of the Ganga by discharge after Ghaghra river and the longest tributary in India.

It merges with the Ganga at Triveni Sangam, Allahabad, now Prayag Raj which is one of a site of the Kumbh Mela, a Hindu festival held every 12 years.

The Tons, largest tributary of the Yamuna, has some magical spots in it's upper reaches. It joins the Yamuna below Kalsi before the latter leaves the hills.
At this site, the water carried by the Tons is twice the water carried by the Yamuna.

The left bank tributaries of yamuna are Hindan, Rind, Sengar, Varuna and right bank tributaries are Chambal, Sindh, Betwa, Ken.

Recently, it was observed that a deadly drug-resistant fungus is spreading across the US.

Candida Auris is a type of fungus that grows like yeast.

One of the few species of the Candida genus that causes candidiasis in humans.

It was first reported in Japan in 2009.

It is often multidrug-resistant, meaning that it is resistant to multiple antifungal drugs commonly used to treat Candida infections.

Usually spread by contact with contaminated surfaces or by person-to-person transmission.

- They can be found in yogurt and other fermented foods, dietary supplements, and beauty products.

Prebiotics
-are specialised plant fibers. They act like fertilizers that stimulate the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut.
- Prebiotics are found in many fruits and vegetables, especially those that contain complex carbohydrates, such as fiber and resistant starch.

-A catalytic converter is a device installed in the exhaust system of a vehicle to reduce the emission of harmful pollutants.

-The most common pollutants that catalytic converters help reduce are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons.

-The catalytic converter works by using a catalyst, typically made of platinum, palladium, or rhodium, to convert harmful pollutants into less harmful substances, such as carbon dioxide, water, and nitrogen.

-With the introduction of Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms in India, it has become mandatory for all vehicles to be fitted with catalytic converters.

Under the amended RBI Act, the monetary policy making is as under:
➖The MPC is required to meet at least four times in a year.
➖The quorum for the meeting of the MPC is four members.
➖Each member of the MPC has one vote, and in the event of an equality of votes, the Governor has a second or casting vote.
➖The resolution adopted by the MPC is published after conclusion of every meeting of the MPC in accordance with the provisions of Chapter III F of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.
➖On the 14th day, the minutes of the proceedings of the MPC are published which include:
a. the resolution adopted by the MPC;
b. the vote of each member on the resolution, ascribed to such member; and
c. the statement of each member on the resolution adopted.

➖Once in every six months, the Reserve Bank is required to publish a document called the Monetary Policy Report to explain:
a. the sources of inflation; and
b. the forecast of inflation for 6-18 months ahead.
Legal Framework
Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934 as amended from time to time.

📚Objectives of Monetary Policy
The primary objective of central banks is to manage inflation. The second is to reduce unemployment, but only after they have controlled inflation.

The U.S. Federal Reserve, like many other central banks, has specific targets for these objectives. It seeks an unemployment rate below 6.5 percent. The Fed says the natural rate of unemployment is between is between 4.7 percent and 5.8 percent. It wants the core inflation rate to be between 2.0 percent and 2.5 percent. It seeks healthy economic growth. That’s a 2-3 percent annual increase in the nation’s gross domestic product.
If you SB or current account hasn’t witnessed any transactions(credit/debit except interest credited the bank, deduction of service charges, for more than 1 year, the account is rendered inactive. On exceeding 2 years, the account is declared dormant/inoperative.

Any customer induced transaction is enough for this purpose. Like credit or debit transactions done by the account holder in this account, keeps it active. Some of them have been listed below –

♦️ Outward bill
♦️ Inward bill
♦️ Transactions through cheque.
♦️ Deposit of cash
♦️ Deposit through cheque
♦️ Cash withdrawal or deposit via ATM.
♦️ Internet banking transaction
♦️ Crediting interest earned mandate on Fixed deposit to Savings Bank Account

🔷When does a bank assume an account as inoperative?

If there is no transaction in the account for one year, the bank tries to contact the account holder or the nominee. In case of no replies, the bank will send intimation to account holder 2 or 3 months prior to treating his inactive account.

On continuation of this ‘inactive’ status for 2 years, the status becomes ‘inoperative’ or ‘dormant’. The process will be completed by sending a correspondence to the account holder, declaring the account as ‘inoperative’.

•No valid transaction for 1 year – inactive bank account.
•No valid transaction for 2 years – inoperative bank account.

♻️How to change the status of a “Dormant Bank Account” to an “Active Bank Account”?

An inoperative account can become an operative account within 24 hours. All you need to do is to submit an application along with identity proof and passbook or cheque book to your bank, stating the reasons for absence of valid transactions.

After completion of “Know Your Customer” formalities, banks usually put the customer’s account on Active mode within 24 hours.

Remember, there is no reactivation charge on a dormant account.

An inoperative account will have restrictions for several transactions including ATM withdrawal, internet or phone banking, issuing new cheque books, etc. All these are intended for the safety of the money in the account. Otherwise, it may increase the risk of fraudulent transactions from your account.

If you are having more than one account, it is always better to keep tabs on them or making some small transactions just to keep them active. In this age of netbanking, all it takes is a few mouse clicks and your account would remain operational.

What is Reverse-flipping

● Flipping is the process of transferring entire ownership of an Indian company to an overseas entity.

● It is generally accompanied by a transfer of all intellectual property and data owned by an Indian company.

● Reverse Flipping is the process of shifting the domicile of those companies back to India who flipped earlier.

● Companies reverse flip because of easy access to capital from private equity and venture capital, changes in rules regarding round-tripping, and the growing maturity of India's capital market.
